Construction of the North Rhins Wind Farm commenced in late autumn 2008 and should be completed by summer 2009. Access tracks have been constructed between the turbines and a sub-station and control compound built on the site. Turbines are installed on concrete foundations, with the towers, nacelles and blades lifted into place using cranes. Electrical cables between all of the turbines and the control building will be buried underground and are likely to run alongside the access tracks.

The wind farm will be connected to the local distribution network along a route to be determined by Scottish Power (Distribution) Ltd. The route is likely to follow existing overhead electricity lines near to the site, connecting to the network at Glenluce. The connection will be via overhead lines mounted on wooden poles.
