Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Wigtown Area Committee approved our planning application for an 11 turbine wind farm on 14 March 2008. The wind farm is located close to Portpatrick, on the Old Port Road near Enoch Farm.
This project is currently under construction and will be exporting electricity by the end of 2009. The turbines will be Vestas V80 machines, with a capacity of 22 megawatts of electricity. The electricity from the site will be connected into the local distribution line via an onsite switch station to a substation at Lochans.
The Principle Contractor for the construction of the wind farm is R J Mcleod Ltd, a large Scottish construction company based in Glasgow and Dingwall . They have experience in all aspects of wind farm construction, along with a broad range of other civil engineering and construction projects covering many sectors.
