Environmental Impact » Ground & Water

A baseline assessment of ground conditions and hydrology has taken place. This has involved desktop analysis of existing information and a site visit. Peat has been found to be quite extensive on high ground to the east of the Rhins of Galloway, but has been found in discrete parts of the north of the site. The results of these surveys have been used in the design of the turbine layout and are currently being used to inform the access track network.

Surveys have been carried out to identify potentially sensitive water bodies in the vicinity of the site, including public and private water supplies, Drinking Water Protection Areas and surface water bodies. Several properties in the vicinity of the site are supplied by private water supplies, including wells and springs.

A full programme of mitigation measures has been developed to ensure that there are no adverse impacts on these receptors.
