Interactive Map
Our design for the North Rhins Wind Farm has been completed and our planning application submitted. Technical Appendix H of the Environmental Statement covers Landscape & Visual Impact and includes a series of computer generated visualisations of the wind farm in photomontage and wireframe views.
The viewpoint locations were agreed with Dumfries & Galloway Council and Scottish Natural Heritage for the purposes of the preparation of the Environmental Statement. A baseline photograph showing the existing landscape is shown (for onshore locations) together with a computer generated wireframe image of the windfarm. The two are combined to form a photomontage, a realistic impression of how the wind farm will look from these locations.. Each of the images is prepared with the turbines facing the observer in order to illustrate the “maximum” visual impact from each location. In reality the wind blows predominantly from the south west and the turbines will be orientated to face directly in to the wind for most of their operational lives.
Certain viewpoints have been used to assess potential cumulative impact issues where more than one wind farm may be visible within the landscape. Where this is the case, 180 and 360 degree visualisations are presented. These are annotated with the name and planning status of the other wind farms.
The Interactive Map shows the location of the viewpoints on a map of the area. The representations can be viewed by clicking on the individual viewpoints.
In addition, a Zone of Visual Influence (ZVI) study is presented that illustrates the theoretical visibility of the proposed development at blade tip height of 100m. It is produced using O.S. panorama 50m grid terrain tiles. It is based on bare ground conditions and takes no account of intervening vegetation, buildings or localised landform.
Separately, you can download and view larger versions of the images presented in the interactive map in the Photomontage section. These are presented in portable document format (PDF) versions of the pages presented in Technical Appendix H to the Environmental Statement.
